FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Children as young as four can start training in Taekwondo. We have specially designed our Little Tigers program and our Little Tigers training room to kids of that age. They can easily handle the curriculum we have provided. Plus, with dedicated preschooler equipment, and specialized instructional staff under the leadership of 5th degree black belt, Mrs. Vasquez, they will leverage the best equipment and instruction available. And, many of our current national youth champions started as Little Tigers, so starting early clearly has some benefits.
At Vasquez Taekwondo Academy, we take the utmost precautions in ensuring your children are safe. Thick, protective pads are used for any contact. And, no contact to the face of any kind is allowed. Any contact is strictly supervised by multiple instructors. Frankly, given the care we take, and discipline we implement, most other sports your children can play are far more dangerous.
For a child over six training a minimum of twice per week, it traditionally takes around four years to earn a black belt. In our Haidong Gumdo class, it can be a short as 2.5 – 3 years.

While most martial arts can trace their origins to China or India, all have grown and changed over the past several thousand years. Korean Martial Arts, and Taekwondo and Haidong Gumdo, in particular, have evolved away from their roots to become quite distinct. They are the most popular martial arts practiced in the world for a reason. Whether it is their superior Korean organizations (like the WTF and WHGF) that have provided very strong control over the curriculum and consistent leadership, the focus on honor and respect, or it is the Olympic influence, we believe these arts are among the best available.
If you are older, you should get the approval of a doctor before you embark on any fitness program. But, many of our students practice well into their 50s and 60s and feel it has aided them considerably. Haidong Gumdo has been designed for three generations of families to participate in at one time. We feel that our programs can help almost anyone of any age.
